possible time line for idents

i have roughly 5 ideas for my idents.

i think i can have them ready in the next few weeks on schedule.

-can do the skylight one with the lensflare pretty easily.

- picture of pictures looking at people could do in 2 days.

-the couple eating and drinking can be done in 2 days.

_the crowd then suddenly silenced by the slamming door may take longer, will need afew days to get it done.

=one to do with pigeons may or may not happen.

Ident Analysis

i thought i would analyze afew channel 4 idents and compare the differences.

this was a popular one from afew years ago and was part of a series of similarly themed idents for ch 4, it was very reminiscent of a ch 4 ident i remember from about 20 years earlier:

and to put them together it doesn't look like they have changed a great deal

both reflect the sensibilities of the channel pretty well, as Channel 4 have always had a teenage young adult audience demographic, also reflected in the majority of their programing.

the first one i remember seeing in the early 90's as a child, thinking it looked alot like lego bricks coming together, and being fascinated how they made these colourful bricks come together so elegantly.

the more recent one took me a little longer to relies what i liked about it. possibly the earlier one is right in your face with only the bright colours, and the newer one is more subdued and far off in the back ground.

In fact i remember not even noticing the 4 being formed until saw this 2 or 3 times.

these were a series of similar Idents, all having in common this hand held look. using the urban landscape to form the number 4. i have to admit i still think these are some of the best idents i can think of. the Tokyo one is probably the most similar to the 1982 big colourful one. even going as far as flashing one of the bright pink signs in case u didn't see it the first time.

alot of these are effects very well integrated into the live action,the techniques are more sophisticated, perhaps reflecting the new generation of audiences. its kind of a kitchen sink aproach, these all look like they were done to a very good standard, but also that they could have been done by one person in his spare time.

i like the simplicity of this one from moo studios.

has saturated pink on white as the main colour and the message is so simple. the font is fluffy, maybe suggesting its for kids. has a comedic tone, light hearted. the music has these big tombone noises, with the word mobilize in a white on a ramp light blue wall paper, makes it sound like a marching band.

i have mostly been looking at the tutorials most related to what i am doing, there are many out there for different effects so for the most part i have been doing elements i want to use for each one. these two recent ones are good enough to be actual idents.

saul bass for inspiration

was having a look at soul bass's work an thought i would like to incorporate some of the style in my idents, the simple shapes and colour i like :)

weekly schedule

i am about 4 to 5 weeks into my projects and i have been slacking off here and there where i could have been doing some After Effects tutorials. so i decided id do a schedule to keep track of my progress.

up to this point i have edited my film, it needs the 3d and grading/colour correction done, but i will do that in post.

i have done 3-4 National gallery Idents so far. none are particularly useable, but are worthwhile starting points.

I need to practice more often in after effects with tutorials. next week some ex Ravensbourne graduates will come in to help me achieve the look i am after.

will be doing some after effects tutorials. select which of the pre sketched out sequences i want to work on

27_28th

get those sequences done_could be 2 or 3 ideas i want to develop.

29_31st

going to do some composite of my short chase sequence. basic fleshing out of the sequence. maybe have a shape going around.

Ident project for national gallery

Ident ideas for National Gallery

What i have done so far is take a trip to the Gallery and take notes.

i noticed various paintings i would like to use. probably the biggest thing i noticed was

whichever direction you are going in, always there is a big picture which is the main point of focus.

i was thinking to do an ident using the corridor idea.

i have seen some examples already from a few previous years who already cottoned onto the idea of using the corridors as a moving in point to the gallery logo. One ident used white red and black as the colours, which is close to what i thought about the gallery, its minimal, sophisticated, quiet, calm etc.

I wrote down alot of words that came to mind, I think i will save some images next , create a mood bored or a colour script, get some ideas.

I think After effects is the program i would like to use the most, as there are good camera moves and transitions i can do there.

i will look at some more after effects tutorials to help make several different ones. brief sais at least 5 so ill aim for that and try some more.
